Welcome to LawsOfThinking: an invaluable resource for learning about cognitive biases, heuristics and thinking errors, and the place for improving how you think, plan and act!
What is Laws Of Thinking?
Laws Of Thinking is a free resource, dedicated to better understanding how we think, how we interpret and act upon language and communication and how we can learn to avoid common mistakes and make much better judgements and decisions.
“We all think using two distinct systems. One is fast, instinctive and very much based on ‘gut feeling’. It’s often subconscious and can be swayed by our experiences and beliefs without us even knowing it. The second is slower, more methodical and rational, less emotional and empirical. Is it ‘better’? Not necessarily, but it is more pragmatic and objective…”
The problem occurs when we aren’t aware of these two systems and we cede too much to System One. That’s when cognitive biases creep in and we make poor, or at least ill informed, decisions.
We focus on three areas, cognitive biases, heuristics and accepted laws of thinking.
Who is Laws Of Thinking?
LawsOfThinking was created by seasoned digital trainer and project manager Craig A. Taylor, founder of startup Orakly, as a result of more than 20 years working in digital; teaching project management, psychology, user experience (UX) and user-centred design.

Having delivered training since 1999, Craig realised that understanding cognition – how we think – had enormous befits to improving project planning, user-centred design and user experience (UX) and could dramatically increase our efficiency in many areas of our work and personal lives.
“With projects and products, no matter how much we plan, we simply won’t succeed unless we factor in the way we think, interact with each other and use products subconsciously…”
As such, we deliver training, talks and seminars for businesses on how to embrace cognitive biases, heuristics and user-centred design into their business, so make better decisions and deliver better products for their customers.
Training
Could we help you and your business make better decisions?
We run a number of training courses in digital user experience (UX), product and project management. Check back for new dates as they are announced.
Would you like us to talk to your organisation about how to make better decisions? Email us at hello@lawsofthinking.co.uk for more details.
Posts
There are regular posts – commentaries on current topics, trends and an explanation of what is happening behind the news. Each post is linked to one of more tutorials that explain the science behind each article.
Tutorials
Each week we add more tutorials, detailed articles looking at each of the more than 180 currently identified cognitive biases, heuristics and laws of thinking. Each tutorial is also linked to a number of posts and articles of cognitive biases in play.
